What You Need to Know About Sinusitis

Sinusitis shares common symptom with cough and cold but the amount of pain and stress they give is possibly more. It occurs when the nasal cavities become inflamed and swollen. Sinusitis is usually due to a virus and lasts longer in case it is of the chronic kind. There is also an acute version which tends to trouble less. The disease is marked by pain around the eyes, behind the nose, forehead, upper jaws and may sometimes lead to even headache. Another characteristic feature is the discharge from your nose. The color is usually greenish-yellow and sometimes flows down the throat bypassing the nose. It is usually worse in the morning because the fluid had collected all through the night.

Sinusitis makes the nose stuffy by blocking the nasal passages and making it difficult to breathe. Sudden temperature changes make the condition worse and increase your headache. The discharge which passes down the throat often makes your cough at night making you sound hoarse in the morning. It also causes irritation over a long period of time making cough and cold a chronic problem. It can even give you sleepless nights. Sitting upright might make you feel better for some time and reduce the intensity of the cough.

Sinusitis can be caused by cold, allergy, nasal polyps and other conditions and usually lasts for a least 10 days or so. Various topical medicines are available over the counter but caution should be taken while administering any of them. You can also try home remedies for sinus infection with effective results.
