Naturally Organic

Today when the world is already under the charm of natural products, “organic” products have made their head way into all the supermarkets and malls leaving customers puzzled. People on one hand have the natural products and on the other hand they have the organic products. Both the products appeal with respect to their shape, colour, freshness and packaging and at times with labels claiming the same vitamins and minerals. People often feel that these products are superior to the conventional products and have better nutrition value. Though it is not always true!

Natural’ and ‘Organic’ words are neither synonyms nor interchangeable. There does not exist a strict or formal definition of the words. A food stuff bearing the label ‘natural’ means that it contains products that exists naturally or the product of the earth.

Organic product is a certification that the product is manufactured in accordance with the standards set by the county. Though the standards may vary from country to country but the basic criteria remain the same such as:

  • The food ingredients have been produced through organic farming.
  • It should not use any synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
  • The use of synthetic growth regulators and synthetic dyes prohibited.
  • The use of genetically engineered seeds, pollen, transgenic plants or material is not allowed.
  • Organic food products must be free from any synthetic additives or preservatives.
  • The environment where the food ingredients are grown should preferably be pollution or contamination free.
In nut shell all organic products are natural but all natural products may not be organic!
